January

We're off to a great start this month! We're starting to get back into the swing of things and are re-establishing some of our classroom routines. Thank you to all of those parents who responded so quickly to our school supply woes, the supplies are pouring in! The class newsletter will be going home this week so keep your eyes open for it.

Math:
We're cruising through 2 by 2 digit addition with re-grouping. I'm amazed at how quickly our kiddos are picking up this topic! We've been creating place value charts (Hundreds, Tens, Ones) to help us out and we just finished making a visual reminder that we laminated and will be keeping in our desks if we need a little extra help! This is a concept I strongly encourage you to practise with your child. Not only do we want them to be able to solve the problems but we also want them to be able to understand what exactly those numbers mean. We want them to understand that the 3 in 32 isn't just a 3 it's really a 30. We've been working on it in class and will continue to look at these concepts for the next few weeks.

LA:

We are well into our look at nouns! Who doesn't love a little School House Rock! They kids thought it was fantastic! We've recently done a noun scavenger hunt in our classroom and were amazed at how many things we found. Next we will be looking at adjectives, verbs and adverbs!

Art:
We just finished an art project using oil pastels! The kids had a blast drawing themselves catching a snowflake! I love how all of the hair turned out!

** Spelling words for this week are posted under the Language Arts section!
