September Is Flying By!

I can't believe that we are moving into the end of September already! What a fast and busy month we've had so far! We have been working really, really hard in class on our procedures and expectations and are certainly headed in the right direction. Our students have been doing some pretty neat Science experiments with Miss. Young and have been learning about Canada with Mr. Young.

Math - Patterns
In math we are continuing to look at patterns, specifically repeating, increasing and decreasing patterns. Here are some of the repeating patterns we came up with this week!

We are really starting to get the hang of it!!

Language Arts
In Language Arts we are starting to dive into writing! We have been reading a lot of books about being unique and doing some writing activities and crafts to show how unique we all are. Here are a few of the titles we have been looking at (Kevin Henkes does a great job of promoting self confidence!)

We are continuing to work on our spelling, letter formation and creating complete sentences during language arts.

Library
Just a reminder that library book are due back each Tuesday. You are more than welcome to check those same books out again if you're not quite done with them but please return them on Tuesday so you can re-sign them out!

Homework Club
If your child hasn't already told you about the "Homework Club" already then I'll fill you in! Our kiddos are each given a special number and all of those numbers are up on the board in our classroom. The goal is for every student to still have their number up there at the end of the month where they will then be added to our Homework Club Members for that month that will be displayed for the remainder of the year. They will also receive a certificate showing that they did their homework ALL month, and they will get a "No Homework Pass" good for one night off from their reading journals.
Of course I understand there are nights that something comes up where your child can not complete their homework. As long as you have let me know via e-mail or a note in their agenda your child will certainly not be penalised. However, whenever students don't complete their homework and no notification has been given their number will be removed for the remainder of that month. At the start of a new month all the numbers are back up on the board and we start all over again! The kids are really keen on the club and reading journals and spelling homework has been flying in!

I hope everyone had an amazing long week and I can't wait to see everyone tomorrow for another fantastic week!

*Spelling words for this week are posted under the Language Arts section.
